I don't know what made me "furry" to be honest. But, I've always loved anthro characters in cartoons and the like...I guess my past is my future here, the past has made me a furry and I don't regret my choice. I've found many friends after becoming a furry, many things I didn't know about myself, and I don't regret it one bit.

Well, I guess it is a several different things that made me a furry. It was a combination of several different games, events, and the fact that I find furries to be inspiration for my stories and artwork. To be honest it good inspiration for the story line that I am working a video game story line before I go to college for video game design and simulation.

It's weird, but I haven't ever really questioned it. I suppose it's the escapism; human limits aren't relevant if you're not actually human.

Nothing ever MADE me a furry. I just noticed I was one, one day. Looking at webcomics, found the fuzzy ladies attractive... sat down, did some research, looking at the pictures and reading the stories, came to the conclusion, 'Huh. I'm a furry.' And there was also an expletive comment at the end there. 'S***! Now what do I do?' And then I began my plan to never tell anyone ever.

Fact of the matter is, I'm a Therian, so I guess I always was "furry" ^_^. What made me realize this? That's complicated, try looking at yourself every day and not feeling that it's the real you. The realization was when I went on a spirit walk, that kind of solidified what I was and my Therianism all together ^_^

Don't think anything really made me furry - I always was just really didn't know anything about it. When you're a) a kid of the 80s, b) in the UK and c) know that you like giant critters and are pretty sure nobody else in your whole school (or anywhere else for that matter) your options are a bit on the limited side! Plus back then there was no internet either. Guess I'm somewhat of a therian too :) .

Sorry to go OT but I must admit for a long time I always thought I was the only person on earth to like it all - though I never for one moment ever felt it was "wrong" or "bad", not at all. Still don't! Once I got online back in '96 though everything started to change, found more about stuff.

Gosh, I'm not sure I can even remember. Let's see, hmm...

I remember watching Clifford the Big Red Dog when I was younger, and I had always thought having a big fluffy friend would be beyond awesome. (I still do ;))

My love of foxes came with role-playing as Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog adventures with the next-door neighbor's kids. At the time I started to show interest in technology (~6 years old), and Tails was the tinkerer of the group (they chose Sonic and Knuckles, me - Tails, and I think my sister played Amy), so I guess that's why I opted for him. From then onwards, my favorite color has always been orange :P

The Magic School Bus' shrinking adventures made me realize I enjoyed being the little, and that has stuck with me until now. However, I never realized that several online communities existed around this topic until a few years ago. Oddly enough, this part of my memory is even more fuzzy, but I know that at some point I came across BigFurs, FurAffinity, and it became turtles all the way down (or up, depending on your perspective).

What I find really weird is that I had these dreams dealing with macro/micro before I ever heard of those terms (ah, dialup internet, oh how I don't miss you). Either I was little, and some character like Sylvester would chase me down and try to eat me, or I became a giant feral fox of sorts, and tried to hang out with my friends as normal (sadly, the dreams never got past the "O hai, you look different" introductions :dodgy:).

Wow, that's a lot of text...
TL;DR: Cartoons + foxes = win

Freedom and encouragement made me furry, in the form of a friend who told me about the fandom.
I consider furry a title that can be easily claimed, should someone have the reason and courage to do so.
Anthros rock, macros rule, I am a micro. Learning that there are social groups based around these things
just sorta made everything fall into place for me.

Thanks for asking! Fun fun fun...
